Environmental Law Forum Named the 2016 ABA SEER Program of the Year
PBI’s 20th Annual Environmental Law Forum received the ABA Section of Environment, Energy and Resources 2016 State Bar Program of the Year Award. The award recognizes “the best continuing legal education program or public service project of the year focused on issues in the field of environmental, energy or natural resources law.” Held in April 2015 in Harrisburg, the Forum was attended by nearly 400 people and included 39 sessions taught by more than 100 faculty members.

Technology, Award of Professional Excellence
In March 2015 the Pennsylvania Bar Institute started communicating with our customers more effectively through social media, specifically, through Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. PBI reports on
recent decisions of the Pennsylvania appellate courts, usually within 24 hours;
new and pending legislation;
proposed and adopted court rule changes, and;
other changes that directly impact lawyers’ practices.
Further, when appropriate, we post about our upcoming CLE programs that will address the same or similar issues addressed in those court decisions and developments. Additionally, when there is a change in the law or any late-breaking legal news, we post a blog with more detailed analysis than is possible in a tweet. It is PBI’s goal to become a trusted resource of up-to-date, practical and reliable legal information for our customers, not simply a source of CLE credits.
ACLEA Marketing Award 2015 — “PBI Rebranding Project”
In late 2014, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute launched an ongoing and significant initiative to rebrand the organization in preparation for its 50th year. In order to build a solid foundation and launch pad for future marketing, as well as streamline internal process to allow for exploration of new advertising and marketing endeavors, PBI began the process of creating an updated brand identity, maintaining its well-established familiarity but modernizing the general look and feel of all communications and advertising.
ACLEA Marketing Award 2016 — “PBI 50 Marketing Campaign”
In 2015, the Pennsylvania Bar Institute celebrated 50 years as the premier provider of continuing legal education to Pennsylvania lawyers. The event was celebrated through a year-long marketing campaign, reinforcing a message not only of 50 years of accomplishments, but also a commitment to continuing innovation in CLE in the future. The 12-month campaign featured monthly themes, each of which focused on differentiating PBI from its competitors, with supporting messages and promotions. The campaign spanned institutional print advertising and flyers, external advertising, email marketing, the PBI corporate website, social media and video.

PBI Wins Two Awards in 2011
The international Association for Continuing Legal Education has an annual contest to recognize the very best of its members’ projects. In 2011, PBI won two of these coveted awards.
Our Anatomy Lab series (Into the Anatomy Lab, and the Anatomy Lab Road Show), won the award for outstanding achievement in the best program category. These courses, featuring award-winning professor and litigator Sam Hodge and anatomist Hector Lopez MD are offered from time to time and can be found in the Medicine for Lawyers category on our website.
Our Facebook page for our Law Practice Management and Development Institute won the award for professional excellence in the best technology category.
Simulcasting wins ACLEA Award, August 2008
PBI’s latest endeavor to make the best CLE programs more conveniently available to Pennsylvania lawyers has been honored with an Award of Professional Excellence in the Technology category by the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA).
PBI developed simulcasting, the technology to send a large video stream out of our Philadelphia and Mechanicsburg conference centers. We worked with county bar associations and other sites to ensure that receiving sites around the Commonwealth had sufficient available bandwidth to accept the video in their facilities.
This prestigious international association announced that the PBI received the highest award in the Technology category, one of only five annual awards granted to competitors representing more than 300 organizations from all 50 states, Canada, Australia, and other countries around the world.
In the past 12 months, employing this modern video streaming technology, PBI delivered over 50 of our best CLE programs to smaller communities around the state and directly to the conference rooms of Pennsylvania’s largest law firms.
Changes in communications technology now allow us to deliver a video stream of sufficient quality to project an image on a large screen for viewing by groups of attorneys.
Live seminars delivered to a remote site in a group setting, with attendance monitored and the opportunity to ask questions during the seminar, are not subject to the “distance learning” CLE credit limitations under the Pennsylvania rules.
Simulcasts represent a vastly superior service designed to expand the availability of our seminars and to eventually replace our satellite network. By offering timely seminars, conveniently located in communities throughout the state, taught by the best instructors, we are fulfilling our mission to be a truly statewide CLE provider in every field of practice and at every level of expertise. We are reaffirming our long standing relationships with county bar associations and establishing new relationships with major law firms based in Pennsylvania.

Elder Law in Pennsylvania (First Edition) was the 2006 recipient of the Association for Continuing Legal Education (ACLEA) Book Award for Outstanding Achievement. The book competed with more than 300 entries from organizations from all of the 50 states, Canada, Australia, and other countries around the world. ACLEA’s members are professionals in the fields of continuing legal education and legal publishing. Its annual awards are highly competitive and winning publications and projects represent the highest level of achievement for the organization and volunteer attorneys involved.
Elder Law in Pennsylvania provides an organized and accessible overview of elder law issues for Pennsylvania lawyers. It appeals to the over 14,000 Pennsylvania lawyers who specialize in handling elder law and/or estate planning cases. The material found in the book is organized into 15 chapters and is 670 pages. The book also contains an index of cases, a statutory index, and a subject matter index. When thumbing through the book, you will note the materials are well organized and appropriately identified by concise headings and subheadings. Moreover, the text format is very conducive to quick reference. The author’s writing style is clear and easy to read. Statements borrowed by the author are supported with footnotes at the bottom of each page. Sample forms are included at the end of each chapter. Practice tips, tables, checklists, and examples are included in many, if not most, of the chapters.
The book also includes a CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contains the text of the book in Adobe PDF format, and the forms are available in Adobe PDF, WordPerfect, and Microsoft Word. The forms on disk provide ready-made templates that save time and effort spent in re-keying or scanning.
Elder Law in Pennsylvania (First Edition) was written by Jeffrey A. Marshall, Esq. Mr. Marshall is the managing attorney of the Elder Law Firm of Marshall, Parker & Associates, LLC, with offices in Williamsport, Jersey Shore, and Wilkes-Barre. He is certified as an Elder Law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation under authorization from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Over the past 20 years, the practice of elder law in Pennsylvania has become recognized as a distinct legal discipline. The book fills a perceived gap in the research resources available to lawyers by providing a broad, Pennsylvania-specific overview and guide to many of the issues that are significant in legal, financial, and health planning areas for seniors.
